FAQ

What are milestone sessions?

Milestone sessions are photography sessions that capture your child’s growth and development at different stages in their first year. These sessions are typically done around the following milestones:

3-4 months (when your baby can hold their head up on their own)
6 months (when your baby can sit unassisted)
9 months (when your baby can crawl)
12 months (when your baby can stand or take their first steps)
Milestone sessions can also be done to celebrate other special occasions, such as a first birthday or a holiday.

What should I wear to a milestone session?

The best thing to wear to a milestone session is something that is comfortable and timeless. Avoid busy patterns and opt for solid colors or simple patterns. You can also coordinate outfits with your family members.

What should I bring to a milestone session?

Here are a few things you may want to bring to your milestone session:

A few different outfits for your baby
Diapers and wipes
A bottle if your baby is bottle-fed
A pacifier
A blanket
Snacks for yourself and your family

What if my baby is fussy during the session?

Don’t worry! Babies are unpredictable, and it’s perfectly normal for them to get fussy during a photo session. The photographer will be experienced in working with babies and will do their best to capture great photos even if your baby isn’t cooperating all the time.

How long does a session last?

Milestone sessions usually last up to an hour. Some kiddos make it closer to 45 minutes. I have found that kids vary from day to day at these ages, and some days will be better than other. No worry, we will still have lots of great images if you little one doesn’t make it the full hour set aside for the session.

What happens if my child is sick?

As a parent, I know that kids seem to pick up germs everywhere and are sick frequently. If your child wakes up sick, let me know right away the morning of your session. We can reschedule your session, without a fee. I will send you my studio calendar and you can pick a new date and time. I have rescheduling dates build into my calendar, making rescheduling easy.

How can we (parents) assist with the shoot?

Parents play a vital role in ensuring a smooth and successful milestone photography session. Here’s how they can assist:

Before the Session:

  • Plan outfits: Coordinate outfits that complement each other and the chosen theme (if any). Opt for comfortable clothes that allow for easy movement during posing.
  • Prepare feeding and comfort items: Pack plenty of diapers, wipes, a change of clothes, a bottle (if bottle-fed), and their favorite pacifier or comfort toy.
  • Feed and rest your baby: Ensure your baby is well-fed and has had enough sleep before the session. This will contribute to a happier and more cooperative little model.
  • Discuss expectations: Talk to the photographer about your desired shots and any concerns you might have.

During the Session:

  • Be present and engaged: Your baby will pick up on your mood. Stay relaxed, positive, and shower your child with love and affection. This will create a calming environment and encourage natural smiles.
  • Be their cheerleader: Gently coax your baby with playful talk, songs, or silly faces to elicit natural reactions and smiles.
  • Assist with posing: The photographer will guide you, but be prepared to help hold or comfort your baby in different positions for the shots.
  • Don’t be afraid to express concerns: If your baby gets fussy or needs a break, communicate with the photographer. Don’t hesitate to take feeding or diaper changing breaks as needed.
  • Embrace the unexpected: Milestone sessions capture real moments, not staged perfection. Go with the flow and enjoy the interaction with your baby.

Remember: The photographer is there to capture precious memories. By being prepared, patient, and actively involved, parents can significantly contribute to a fun and successful milestone photography session.
