FAQ

Time Frame & Session Duration

What is the best time frame for a maternity photo shoot?

The best time will be between 32-35 weeks where your belly begins to develop more of a nice round shape that’s perfect for showing off in photos. Some clients choose to do the shoot in the 30th week which is fine too.

How long will the session take?

A session typically takes approximately 2 – 2.5 hours. That excludes the time for trying out/ changing of dresses.

Can my kid(s) join in the shoot?

Yes! There’s no reason not to invite your kid(s) to the shoot.

Maternity Outfit

Are the maternity dresses provided?

Yes! Currently, there are about 10 dresses/gowns (collection size is growing!) for you to choose from.

Do you have maternity dresses that don't expose the belly?

We understand that some individuals may have reservations about exposing their bellies, we do have regular maternity dresses that don’t expose the belly area.

What are the sizes of the maternity dresses?

The sizes of the dresses range from Free size – Medium size. Most of the dresses are stretchable which makes fitting easy.

How many maternity dresses can I change?

You may change up to 2 dresses for the shoot.

Can I bring my own maternity dresses?

After all, you know best what suits you. While you’re welcome to get your own maternity dresses, I would like to suggest that you show them to me first before placing an order. As much as possible, we want something that goes well with the decor.

Preparation/ Misc

How do I book a session?

Upon confirmation, a deposit amount of $180 will be required to secure a session slot. Meadow Lullabies is flexible with switching dates, subject to availability.

What do we need to prepare?

  • Inner-wear: The maternity outfits come in an array of colors including white, army green, dusty pink, and khaki. To complement these outfits, it is advisable to select complementary inner-wear for a coordinated and put-together look. Opt for colors such as beige, white, dusty pink, or black for your lingerie. A suggested choice would be a matching lacey bralette paired with either panties or safety tights for a cohesive look. This becomes particularly crucial if your chosen attire exposes your belly or features translucent fabrics. Additionally, for off-shoulder dresses, it’s advisable to consider strapless bras for a seamless look. To ensure versatility and flexibility in styling, it’s wise to bring along a variety of lingerie designs.
  • Hairdo: During the photoshoot, there may be poses where you’re required to bend your head slightly downward and face the camera from the side. To ensure your facial features are visible in these poses, it’s recommended to communicate with your makeup artist (MUA) or hairstylist about styling your hair accordingly.
Ask your MUA to create a hairstyle that keeps the sides of your face open and doesn’t obstruct your features when you tilt your head downward. This way, you can maintain a clear view of your face and showcase your natural beauty from all angles.
  • Husband’s outfit: To match the overall theme of the shoot, plain light neutral-toned apparel such as white, light pink, brown, khaki, grey is recommended. A classic pair-up will be a loose white casual shirt and khaki color pants. Try to avoid outfits that appears too formal or contains distracting graphics or text.
  • Hairpins (optional)
  • Hair wax (optional)
  • Makeup (optional)
  • Baby apparel such as rompers/ socks. (optional)
  • Custom-made items such as baby birth announcement signboards/ letterboards (optional)
  • Ultrasound scans (optional)

We have bought a few items for my baby and would like to incorporate them into the shoot.

Sure, you’re welcome to bring them along. Here are a few suggestions:

  • 3 – 5pcs x 4R size photos of your family
  • Baby apparel such as rompers/ socks.
  • Custom-made items such as baby birth announcement signboards/ letterboards

What is the studio's decor like?

Embracing soft neutral-toned colors, our minimalistic nature-inspired home studio is furnished with Nordic and boho influence in mind which brings about a rustic yet modern touch.

Images

What is the difference between basic retouch and a full retouch.

A basic retouch covers the following:

  • overall image exposure adjustment
  • restoring white balance

A full retouch covers the following in addition to the basic retouch:

  • uneven skin tone adjustment
  • skin flakes reduction
  • skin smoothening
  • shadow refining
  • backdrop smoothing

In most parts, retouching is localized which treats a specific area of an image such that unaffected areas can be left untouched. See blog post The Art of Retouching: The Key to Stunning Newborn Photos.

How do I receive the images?

Your images will be uploaded to a private gallery where you can view and select the photos for the full retouch. When the full retouch photos are completed, a download link will be sent to you. The downloadable set will also include the photos with basic retouch.

When can I expect the pictures?

Typically, it takes anywhere between 2-4 weeks from the session day, picture selections to sending of the final edits.
